I can smell mom's famous chocolate chip cookies baking now, when the phone rings! "RINGGGGGGGG", well who could that be? Its my aunt Jenny! She calls frantically crying saying that she promised her gardening club that she would bring my mom's famous chocolate chip cookies to their next meeting; but the only problem is that the meeting starts in 3 hours! How is my mom going to make so many cookies in such a short time? She calmly tells aunt Jenny "No problem, we can just double the recipe and make twice as many as before!" DOUBLE THE RECIPE?!?! We can multiply fractions? Who would have known?
Students you guys should remember the method to multiplying fractions that we learned in class on Tuesday. Take this time to show your parents how we would double my moms famous recipe (which will be posted in this blog below). If we needed 2 1/2 cups of sugar, how can we double that? and what about those 3/4 cups of flour? and don't forget the 1/2 cup of butter. Multiplying fractions is as simple as lining my fractions up (and don't forget that the number 2 is also the fraction 2/1) and multiplying straight across the top and bottom! Below I have added a copy of the anchor chart we use in class to remember our steps for multiplying fractions.
